OUR MISSION TO YOU

Skincare is our promise, and wellness is our ultimate mission. That wellness extends from people to the planet. We are one. So making products that are safe to both people and the planet is our deepest commitment. But does that mean we have to give up on efficacy? Absolutely not! We’ve created products that are safe AND work.

Our commitment is to source the highest quality, effective, clean ingredients but that allow certain functions like preserving the products from contamination and providing a reasonable shelf life that you can also feel good about. We don't use animal sourced ingredients, and we are proud to be vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free.

We screen every single ingredient for hazards including cancer, toxicity, and hormone disruptors. We also believe in transparency, that is why we’ve included our complete ingredient list and thoroughly explained each ingredient. We want you to be empowered, to know what you put on your skin and why we use it.

THERE’S NATURAL AND ORGANIC AND THEN THERE’S SAFE

We’ve always preferred natural and plant based products. When we started our company we committed to using organic ingredients and practices whenever possible. That will never change. But in our quest we’ve learned a few important facts that shaped our products, and we want to share them with you.

First, natural isn’t always the safest, and synthetic/man made can actually be more safe and more effective. Allantoin which is naturally found in comfrey is a good example. Comfrey’s leaf and root extracts have many constituents including allantoin which is responsible for anti- inflammatory and wound healing properties. However comfrey also contains toxic alkaloids. So we chose a non toxic allantoin that is made in a lab to mirror its original benefits without any harm.

Secondly, some ingredients may sound more natural but that doesn’t mean they’re safe. For instance, mineral oil sounds innocuous enough, but is actually a by-product of petroleum when converted into gasoline.  That is an example of one of many natural ingredients we don’t use.

Conversely, sometimes an ingredient that sounds questionable is actually plant derived and very safe! Phenylethyl alcohol is a good example. It is actually one of hundreds of chemical components found in the rose.

90% of our ingredients are plant based or plant derivedWe use the highest quality natural and minimally synthetic ingredients that are included to prolong shelf life, prevent microorganism growth, and for their functional benefits, all the while considering the environment.  This ensures that our products are safe and have the same efficacy in each batch.

GOING BEYOND IS OUR STANDARD

From the beginning of our first formulation we consulted the Environment Working Group (EWG) database of 152,546 chemicals. This list is compiled from over 60 toxicity and regulatory global databases. The EWG an industry wide recognized non for profit organization that uses extensive research and information to protect our bodies and our planet.

The U.S. Government does not review products before they are sold, and they haven’t passed a single major federal law regulating the safety of ingredients in personal care products since 1938! The EWG began in 2004 as a way to support consumers to make educated decision about what they put into their bodies.  Included in their database is the EU banned 1,000 list. So we have gone well beyond the US Government list and are forever committed to doing so.  For more information please consult the EWG/Skin Deep List. https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/
